From branch class to independent village school.
Hedong Elementary began in August 1953 as a branch class of Baihe Elementary School ("Baihe Township Baihe National School Hedong Branch Class"), was upgraded to full branch-school status in August 1954, and became an independent school in August 1956 as "Tainan County Baihe Township Hedong National School." It was renamed under nine-year compulsory education in 1968. The school operates its own satellite campus, the Liuxi Branch School (六溪分校), serving an even more remote mountain hamlet.
