From "Dazhuang" to Dongshan.
Dongshan Elementary was founded in September 1900 (民國前12年), originally named 大庄公學校 after the old place name "Dazhuang" (大庄). Over more than a century, it was renamed repeatedly — from 大庄公學校 to 番社公學校, 第一國民學校, 豐田國民學校, and 東山國民學校, before finally becoming 東山國民小學 in August 1968, when Taiwan introduced nine-year compulsory education. Over 125 years old, it is one of the oldest elementary schools in the district. The school runs an "English Word Champion" (英語單字王) vocabulary competition and mother-tongue instruction, and its school lunches use only domestically sourced pork and beef.
