The educational hub for a mountain township.
Taoyuan Junior High was established in 1968, following the formation of a preparatory committee the year before, and remains the only junior high school in Yanping Township. It is a small school, with around three classes and roughly forty students as of 2020, serving a predominantly Bunun Indigenous population drawn from villages scattered across the township's mountainous terrain. The school maintains a dedicated Bunun Heritage Corner on its website, reflecting its role as a gathering point for Bunun students who otherwise attend elementary schools spread across Yanping's separate mountain communities.

The school maintains a Bunun Heritage Corner documenting local Indigenous culture, giving its predominantly Bunun student body a formal space to see their own traditions reflected in school life.
🏫 A Small School With an Outsized Role
小校肩負重要角色
With only about three classes and forty students, Taoyuan Junior High is a small school by any measure, but it carries the entire township's junior-high-age population on its shoulders.
Yanping Township and the Bunun people.
Yanping Township is a Bunun Indigenous mountain township, and Taoyuan Junior High serves as the educational meeting point for Bunun youth from villages scattered across its rugged terrain — a role that makes the school a genuine center of township-wide community life, not just an academic institution.
