Taizi Junior High was founded in July 1981, taking its name from its proximity to the Xinying Taizih Temple, a well-known Nezha ('Third Prince') worship temple. The school once faced possible closure due to low enrollment but rebuilt its student base over roughly a decade. Its girls' basketball team, founded in 2013, won a championship the following school year, and its boys' team, founded in 2014, reached the JHBL final four in its second season — reportedly the first team in JHBL history to win the top division on its first-ever challenge attempt.
太子國中創立於民國70年（1981年）7月，校名取自鄰近的新營太子宮——知名的哪吒（太子爺）信仰廟宇。學校曾一度面臨因招生不足而可能被裁併的危機，歷經約十年時間逐步重建學生人數。2013年成立的女子籃球隊於隔學年即奪冠，2014年成立的男子籃球隊則於第二個賽季打入JHBL四強，據報導是JHBL史上首支首次挑戰即封王的球隊。
