A valley school that built baseball champions.
Taiyuan Elementary was founded in 1929 during the Japanese colonial era under the name "Galabawan Public School," going through several renamings before settling on its current name in 1968. Tucked in the secluded Taiyuan valley of the Coastal Mountain Range, the school became a regional baseball powerhouse after founding its student team in 1983 — winning the East Region national qualifying title four years straight, from 1986 to 1989. Alumni Chang Tai-shan and Chang Chih-hao went on to become professional baseball stars, and the school has spawned several branch schools over the decades, including Beiyuan Elementary in 1957.
