A remote school with an outsized cultural role.
Taixing Elementary was founded in August 1959, in a designated "special remote" (特偏地區) mountain area of Meishan Township. Despite its small size and remote location, the school runs a lively slate of programs — calligraphy and brush-writing, World Mother Tongue Day activities, rope-skipping PE, and Cool English self-learning and listening competitions — and its students have gone on to win multiple 2026 awards in calligraphy, reading, and English learning at the grade 4-5 level.

Keeping mountain-village traditions alive.
As one of Meishan's smallest and most remote mountain schools, Taixing's calligraphy and mother-tongue programming help keep Hakka and Hoklo mountain-village traditions alive in a tea-growing hamlet far from the county seat. See the Chiayi County page for more on the region.
