About · 學校簡介

Where nearly every student is Paiwan.

Taiwu Junior High School, located in Jiaping Village near the base of Dawu Mountain (北大武山) — the sacred mountain of the Paiwan people — was celebrating its 42nd graduating class as of the 2018-19 school year, suggesting a founding around 1976-77. Nearly all students here are Paiwan indigenous youth from the mountain villages of Taiwu Township. The school built a strong volleyball program starting in 2012-13, when it established a volleyball club and, the following year, a school representative team nicknamed the “Paiwan Warriors” (排灣戰士). Competing as a “dark horse,” the team went on to win its first-ever championship title in the JHVL boys' division.

🎵

Taiwu Township is a Paiwan indigenous mountain township in Pingtung, home to the internationally touring Taiwu Elementary Ancient Ballads Choir, a source of enormous local pride that has carried Paiwan traditional song to audiences worldwide. The township's traditional culture centers on the sacred Dawu Mountain (北大武山), millet farming, and slate-house (石板屋) architecture — a heritage that, after Typhoon Morakot's devastation in 2009, was rebuilt with striking care, including a permanent settlement whose school campus has been praised as one of the most beautiful in the world. Taiwu Junior High's students grow up immersed in this same living culture of mountain, music, and resilience.
