The county's flagship comprehensive high school.
The school opened in 1941 during the Japanese colonial era as "Taitung Prefectural Taitung Middle School," was reorganized after the 1945 Retrocession, and became a national school in 2000. It converted to a comprehensive senior high model in 2002, combining academic and sports tracks with an Indigenous arts talent class. Its campus spans roughly 84,438 square meters — sizeable even by national standards. A former branch campus in Guanshan became independent in 1978, evolving into what is today the National Guanshan Vocational Senior High School.
