The school began in 1958 as the "Taitung County Commercial Vocational Supplementary School," becoming a full vocational school in 1961 and gaining national status in 2000. It was upgraded to provincial status in 1968, and between 2000 and 2018 operated under the comprehensive high school model before transitioning back to a technical-type senior high school in 2018. The campus covers approximately 4.93 hectares and runs both day and evening divisions under the school motto "Sincerity, Simplicity, Diligence, Alertness" (誠樸勤警).
學校於1958年（民國47年）創立，初名「臺東縣立臺東商業職業補習學校」，1961年改制為正式職業學校，2000年改隸國立。1968年升格為省立學校，2000年至2018年間曾採綜合高中學制，2018年轉型為技術型高中。校地面積約4.93公頃，設有日間部與夜間部，校訓為「誠樸勤警」。
