A century of names, one enduring school.
Taishan Elementary traces its roots to April 1, 1921, when it opened during the Japanese colonial era as a branch of Gaoshu Public School serving the Kanapu area. After Taiwan's 1945 retrocession it was renamed Datong National School under Kaohsiung County in 1946, then Taishan National School once Pingtung County took over local administration in 1950. It took its present name, Taishan Elementary School, in 1968 with the nationwide rollout of nine-year compulsory education. Today it serves Taishan, Anpo, and Ma'er villages, near neighboring Sandimen Township.
