Tavila: a school known by two names.
Taiping Elementary sits in Taiping Village at the southern end of Zhuoxi Township, a small school of about seven classes including kindergarten, framed on all sides by the Central Mountain Range and the Fengping River. Locally and in Bunun, the school and its surrounding area are known as "Tavila" — a name that carries as much identity for the community as the Chinese "Taiping" does. The school is active in preserving Indigenous traditional crafts through hands-on workshop programs, passing hand skills down to a new generation.
太平國小位於卓溪鄉南端的太平村，是一所約七班（含幼兒園）的小型學校，四周環繞著中央山脈與豐坪溪。當地布農族稱這所學校與周邊地區為「Tavila」——這個名字承載的地方認同，不亞於中文的「太平」。學校致力於透過實作工坊課程保存原住民傳統工藝，將手作技藝傳承給下一代。

Zhuoxi Township is a remote, mountainous district of Hualien County near Yushan National Park, home to a majority Bunun Indigenous population. Its eight elementary schools — and no junior high — reflect villages small enough that most students continue their education elsewhere after sixth grade.
