A school founded for Taiwanese students.

National Tainan First Senior High School, widely known as Tainan First Senior High or "臺南一中," was approved for founding on April 1, 1922 and opened on May 1 of that year as the "Tainan Prefectural Second Middle School" — established specifically to serve Taiwanese students in southern Taiwan, in contrast to schools that primarily served Japanese students. After 1945 it was renamed "Taiwan Provincial Tainan First Middle School," operating as a full six-year school covering both junior and senior high. In 2000, following a national-level reorganization, it took its current name and became a senior-high-only institution. Over a century after its founding, the school is widely regarded as one of Taiwan's most academically elite public high schools, with a large and influential alumni network known as the "竹園" (Bamboo Garden) alumni culture.
