A school built on a family's generosity.

Songwu Elementary was founded in 1931, during the Showa era of Japanese rule, as "Songwu Public School." The entire school site was donated by the local Song (宋) clan, and historically over 100 of its roughly 600 students shared the Song surname — reportedly the highest concentration of Song-surnamed students at any school in Taoyuan City. The school has branded itself around a "plum blossom" (梅花) theme, and its campus features what is described as Taiwan's only plum-blossom-shaped slide, alongside an 80-plus-year-old green plum tree transplanted from the Miaoli mountains. It celebrated its 90th anniversary with the mayor praising its "forest school" environmental-education program.
