From a postwar night school to a design pioneer.
Songshan Vocational High School of Commerce and Home Economics traces its roots to 1946, when it opened as a night-school program called "Taipei Municipal Songshan Junior High School," borrowing classrooms from neighboring Songshan Elementary School just as Taiwan transitioned from Japanese rule to Republic of China administration. Over the following decades it evolved through several reorganizations — becoming a junior commercial vocational school in 1947, merging with three other Taipei junior commercial schools in 1951, adding a senior division in 1961, and being upgraded to "Taipei Municipal Songshan Senior Commercial Vocational School" in 1969 — before taking its current name in 1993, when a home economics division was added.

Education growing alongside Xinyi's skyline.
Founded in 1946 just as Taiwan transitioned from Japanese to Republic of China administration, Songshan Vocational's decades on Songshan Road trace the same stretch of land that later became a vocational-education corridor feeding graduates into the finance, design, and retail firms of the nearby Xinyi Planning District (信義計畫區) — the area now anchored by Taipei 101 and Taipei's tallest skyline. See the Taipei city page for more on the region.
