A school that chose to do things differently.
Songshan Senior High School traces back to 1958, when it opened as "Taipei Municipal Songshan Junior High School." It became a standard junior high school under the nine-year compulsory education system in 1968, then converted into a full senior high school in 1989, dropping its junior-high division and taking its current name. As an early 1989-era senior high, it broke from many traditional public-school norms of the time — becoming an early adopter of co-ed classes, letting students vote on their own uniform design, and relaxing hair-length rules.

Founded as a senior high in 1989, the school was an early adopter of co-ed classes and let students vote on their own uniform design — unusual for a Taiwanese public school of that era.

The campus sits directly at the base of Elephant Mountain, the same ridge whose hiking trail is now world-famous for its view over the Taipei 101 skyline.
Sharing a mountain with the world's tourists.
The school sits at the foot of Elephant Mountain (象山), the same ridge whose hiking trail is now famous worldwide for its panoramic view of Taipei 101. The school's annual Xiangshan Pilgrimage hike sends students up the very same slopes that draw international tourists to photograph the Xinyi skyline, directly linking a decades-old school tradition to the district's modern identity.
