A school the community built with its own hands.
Songshan Elementary has a notably grassroots origin story: in February 1968, local residents raised funds to purchase half a hectare of land, which they donated to the township office to build classrooms. The site was approved on May 24, 1968, as a branch of Xiulin Elementary School ("秀林國小松山分校"), students moved in that September, and the school became fully independent on April 19, 1969. A small, officially designated remote/rural school, it has historically maintained around six classes since its founding. Today it runs a bilingual education "micro-trip" (雙語微旅行) program and Cool English speaking competitions, and it earned a county "特優" (top excellence) rating for health promotion.
