Two chapters of Taiwan's development on one campus.
Shulin Elementary was founded in 1960 to serve “樹林新村” (Shulin New Village), a resettlement community built for families displaced upstream when the Shimen Reservoir was constructed on the Dahan River in the 1950s. In the 1980s, government-led industrial development brought the Guanyin Industrial Park to the area, and roughly 80% of the school's catchment area was subsequently absorbed into the industrial zone. Today the school's catchment covers parts of the Shulin, Caota, and Baozhang neighborhoods.

A campus that compresses two eras of change.
The school's history compresses two defining chapters of Taiwan's postwar development into one campus — reservoir-driven resettlement in the 1950s-60s, followed by industrial-park expansion in the 1980s that now surrounds most of its student catchment. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
