Nearly a century by the sea.
Shuilian Elementary was founded in 1919 under Japanese rule as the "Shuilianwei Aboriginal Public School," dropping the word "aboriginal" from its name in 1922 before settling on its current name in 1968. Now nearly a century old, it is one of Shoufeng Township's oldest schools, and sits in the remote coastal village of Shuilian — one of the few communities in the township that faces the Pacific Ocean directly rather than the inland farmland around Liyu Lake.

🌊 One of Shoufeng's Few Coastal Schools
面向太平洋的村落
Unlike most of Shoufeng's schools, which sit inland near Liyu Lake, Shuilian faces the Pacific Ocean directly, giving it a distinct coastal character.
🎣 An Amis Fishing and Farming Village
阿美族漁農社區
The school serves a historically Amis community that has long balanced fishing and farming along this stretch of Hualien's coastline.
A Pacific-facing corner of Shoufeng.
Shuilian Village is one of the few communities in Shoufeng Township that sits directly on the Pacific coastline, rather than inland near Liyu Lake or the university district — giving it a distinct identity shaped by the sea as much as the land.
