A brand-new school made from two old ones.
Shuangyong Elementary School was created on August 1, 2022, by merging the former Yongchun Elementary School and Yongji Elementary School — the first school merger under Taipei's "Education-Oriented Development" (EOD) urban renewal policy. Note: this Yongji Elementary School is a distinct, elementary-level institution, separate from the still-independent Yongji Junior High School elsewhere in Xinyi District. The merged school's name was chosen through public i-Voting in May–June 2021: "Shuangyong" ("double Yong") won with 695 votes (40%), reflecting that both parent schools shared the character "永" (yong) and the wish for the merger to create a "win-win" for school and community. Under the city's EOD framework, its new campus — under construction in two phases from 2024 to 2029 on a 28,629-square-meter site — is planned to house 42 elementary classes, a 15-class attached kindergarten, a public daycare, a "lifelong learning" senior classroom, and a community arts center.

Formed from the 2022 merger of Yongchun Elementary and Yongji Elementary, the school is distinct from the still-independent Yongji Junior High School elsewhere in the district.
Redevelopment logic, applied to schools.
As Taipei's first school created under the city's "Education-Oriented Development" policy, Shuangyong's 2022 merger is a direct, present-day continuation of the same redevelopment logic that transformed Xinyi from Songshan's rural periphery into a master-planned modern district anchored by Taipei 101 — this time applied to aging school buildings rather than the old munitions-depot land the Xinyi Planning District itself was built on. See the Taipei city page for more on the region.
