Shouling Elementary School began on August 1, 1952, as a branch campus of Mituo National School called Wenji Branch School. It became independent on September 1, 1954, as Wenji National School, before being renamed "Shouling" on August 1, 1958, to honor Zhang Shouling, the local benefactor who donated the land the school stands on. Unlike most schools in the area, whose names reference places or geography, Shouling's name commemorates an individual act of private philanthropy.
壽齡國小創立於民國41年（1952年）8月1日，最初為彌陀國校分校，名為「文吉分校」。民國43年（1954年）9月1日獨立設校，定名「文吉國民學校」，民國47年（1958年）8月1日改名為「壽齡」，以紀念捐地興學的地方仕紳張壽齡。與本地多數以地名命名的學校不同，壽齡國小的校名紀念的是一位個人的公益善舉。
