Shoufeng Junior High began life in 1963 as the Shoufeng Branch of Ji'an Junior High School, starting with just two classes and borrowing classrooms from nearby Fengshan Elementary while its own campus was built. It became a fully independent school in April 1966 under founding principal Zeng Qingyu, and took its current name in 1968. Enrollment once reached 18 classes at its peak; today the school serves a smaller student body of about 7 classes, reflecting the demographic shifts common across rural Hualien.
壽豐國中的前身是民國52年（1963年）成立的吉安國中壽豐分部，初期僅有兩班，借用鄰近豐山國小的教室上課。民國55年（1966年）4月，在首任校長曾慶餘的帶領下正式獨立設校，並於民國57年（1968年）確立現名。全盛時期班級數曾達18班，如今縮減為7班左右，反映出花蓮鄉村地區普遍的人口變化。
