Named for the reservoir that anchors western Longtan.
Shimen Junior High's preparatory committee formed in 1980 at Longtan Junior High, and the school opened in 1981 with five first-year classes, temporarily using Longtan Junior High's classrooms before moving into its own new campus on August 17, 1982. It has since been recognized as a demonstration, or "model," school by the Taoyuan city government, and today runs roughly 23 classes across grades 7 through 9. The school was renamed to its current Taoyuan City designation in December 2014.
