Shijian Junior High School traces its origin to August 1955, when it was established as the "Muzha Joint Branch of Five Provincial Middle Schools" (臺灣省立五省中木柵聯合分部) under a central-government wartime evacuation policy that moved schools out of central Taipei into the safer, more rural Muzha hills. It originally enrolled both a senior-high class and three junior-high classes, though the senior-high component was discontinued in 1956.
The school became an independent Taipei municipal junior high in July 1968, taking its current name, Shijian Junior High School. Today it promotes itself as an "International Bilingual Curriculum School."
實踐國中的前身可追溯至1955年8月，因應中央政府戰時疏散政策而設立的「臺灣省立五省中木柵聯合分部」，將學校自臺北市中心遷往當時較為安全的木柵山區。創校初期同時招收高中部一班與國中部三班，惟高中部已於1956年停辦。
1968年7月，學校改制為臺北市立獨立國中，正式更名為「實踐國中」。目前學校推動「國際雙語課程」特色教育。
