About · 學校簡介

A name from the lion dance, a mission in bilingual education.

Shijia Junior High traces its roots to 1952, when it opened as a branch school; it became independent in 1954 and took its current name in 1968. The school has since been designated a "pioneer bilingual-education school" by the city. Its name honors "戲獅甲" (Xi-shi-jia), a Qing-dynasty coastal hamlet where villagers performed lion-dance and martial-arts drills modeled on the Songjiang Battle Array to train for defense against pirate raids.

"戲獅甲" — lion dance as coastal defense.

🦁

"戲獅甲" (Xi-shi-jia) refers to a Qing-dynasty coastal hamlet where villagers performed lion-dance and martial-arts drills modeled on the Songjiang Battle Array — training that doubled as defense against pirate raids along this stretch of coast. The tradition lives on in the school's name, shared with neighboring Shijia Elementary. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
