Founded by factories, named for a folk tradition.

Shijia Elementary School was founded on September 23, 1948, under its first principal, Xu Ziqiang, established through a cooperative association formed by a local aluminum plant, steel plant, and fertilizer plant together with the city government — an unusual industrial-civic partnership for a public elementary school. Enrollment surged after a military ordnance factory relocated to the area in 1950, and the school spun off Aiqun Elementary School in 1957 to relieve the resulting overcrowding. Its name honors "戲獅甲" (Xi-shi-jia), the historic hamlet where Qing-dynasty villagers performed lion-dance and martial-arts drills to defend against pirates — a heritage it shares with neighboring Shijia Junior High.
