Born from a lake's name and a growing neighborhood.
Shihu Elementary School was founded on March 30, 1978, under founding principal Huang Ming-jia, established as an offshoot of neighboring Dingjin Elementary School's rapidly growing catchment area. The school takes its name from 金獅湖 (Golden Lion Lake), a scenic reservoir and park landmark in the district's historic 覆鼎金 (Fudingjin) area. Enrollment grew quickly, reaching over 4,000 students by 1987 — a scale that reflected the fast urbanization of this part of Sanmin District in the 1970s and '80s.
