A city-center school beside a heritage village.
Shengli Elementary was established on April 10, 1946, when the postwar government took over a Japanese-era elementary school following Retrocession — meaning its campus roots reach back into the Japanese colonial period even though its formal Republic of China founding date is 1946. As of the 2022–23 school year, the school served 571 students across 22 classes with 44 teachers, and its campus includes a library, playground, computer room, gymnasium, roller-skating area, and volleyball court. Shengli sits right beside the Pingtung Railway Station and the "Shengli Star Village," a former air force dependents' community whose restored Japanese-era dormitories have become one of the city's best-known heritage tourism sites.
