From a fishing village's private tutoring school to a modern campus.
Shen'ao Elementary traces its earliest roots to a private Han-Chinese tutoring school established in the Shen'ao area in 1926, which was followed by a Japanese-language institute in 1941. The school became a branch of Xinyi National School in 1947, before being independently established on August 1, 1951. It took its current name in 1968. Due to space constraints at its original site, the school relocated to a new campus in 2009, at No. 55-1, Shen'aokeng Rd., where it remains today.

⚓ Named for a Fishing Port
The school takes its name directly from Shen'ao, one of Keelung's well-known fishing harbors, reflecting its deep roots in the local fishing community.
A school born of a fishing port.
Shen'ao (深澳) is a well-known Keelung fishing port and harbor area, and Shen'ao Elementary's name and original location are directly rooted in this fishing community — a strong tie to Keelung's port and fishing culture. See the Keelung county page for more on the region.
