From colonial-era annex to a school with its own magazine.
Shekou Elementary School was founded in April 1942, during the Japanese colonial era, as the Shekou Annex of Zhongpu Public School. It became an independent school, Zhongpu Township's Fourth National School, in November 1945, was renamed Shekou National School in January 1947, and became Shekou Elementary School in August 1968 under the nine-year compulsory education reform. Today the school runs an attached kindergarten, features music programs with recorder and Japanese taiko (和太鼓) drum performances, publishes a school magazine called "飛躍社口" (Flying Shekou), and offers indigenous/native language education and environmental education programs.
