Shanhua Elementary School

Shanhua Elementary School opened in May 1898 as “the Wanli branch teaching site of the Tainan Mandarin Training Institute” (臺南國語傳習所灣裡分教場) — Wanli being the old name for the Shanhua town center. It was renamed “Wanli Public School” that October, then “Shanhua Public School” in 1920. After the war it became “Shanhua No. 1 National School” in December 1945, “Shanhua National School” in 1947, and finally took its present name, Shanhua Elementary School, in August 1968. With more than 125 years of continuous operation, it is the oldest school in the district and the parent institution from which most of Shanhua's other elementary schools were administratively born.

善化國小創立於明治31年（1898年）5月，初名「臺南國語傳習所灣裡分教場」——「灣裡」正是善化市街舊稱。同年10月改稱「灣裡公學校」，大正9年（1920年）改名「善化公學校」。戰後於民國34年（1945年）12月改為「善化第一國民學校」，民國36年（1947年）改稱「善化國民學校」，民國57年（1968年）8月定名為現今的「善化國民小學」。創校逾125年，是善化區歷史最悠久的學校，也是區內多數國小的根源母校。
