Shanhai Elementary School

Shanhai Elementary School — its name literally means "mountain and sea" — sits in Shanhai Village beside County Road 153, backed by mountains with the ocean in front, next to Xiping Mountain, which shelters it from the harsh winter "落山風" (Hengchun's notorious seasonal downslope winds). It is a very small rural school, with just 6 classes and 61 students as of the 2022 academic year, a number that had fallen to 42 by June 2024. To attract enrollment, Pingtung County has implemented a monthly transportation subsidy of NT$2,000 per student and enrollment scholarships of NT$3,000 (or NT$6,000 for transfer students). Despite its size, the school has built a lively extracurricular life, including African drum performance, a creative art club, chess club, drum-formation dance, a reading garden club, and phonetic-symbol competitions — its samba drum program even won a Pingtung County music competition award.

山海國小顧名思義依山傍海，位於山海里，緊鄰153縣道，背山面海，緊靠西屏山，因而躲過恆春著名的冬季「落山風」。這是一所非常小型的鄉村學校，111學年度僅有6個班級、61名學生，到113年6月時已降至42人。為吸引學生就讀，屏東縣政府提供每生每月2,000元的交通補助，以及3,000元（轉學生6,000元）的入學獎學金。儘管規模小，學校仍發展出豐富的課外活動，包括非洲鼓表演、創意美術社、西洋棋社、鼓陣舞蹈、閱讀花園社，以及注音符號競賽，其森巴鼓表演曾獲屏東縣音樂比賽優等獎。
