From a rail-district junior high to Tainan's first K-12 bilingual school.
This school's story begins on May 2, 2005, when Tainan County established "Shalun Junior High School" (沙崙國民中學) to absorb the population growth arriving with the new Tainan High Speed Rail station in Guiren District. Founding principal Chen Renzheng, appointed in 2002 to prepare the school, led it from its 2005 opening through 2007; principals Zhang Mingxian, Chen Lizu, and Chen Bocang followed in succession. In 2010, after the Tainan county–city merger, it became "Tainan Municipal Shalun Junior High School." In November 2024, the Tainan City education board approved a major transformation: converting the junior high into a full kindergarten-through-senior-high institution. The relaunch took effect for the 2025 school year, when the school reopened as "Tainan Municipal Shalun International Senior High School" — billed as Taiwan's first public K-12 school, with roughly 15 classes spanning kindergarten, elementary, junior-high, and senior-high divisions on a 5.18-hectare campus inside the Tainan HSR Special District. The school operates bilingually in Chinese and English, a deliberate response to the international and professional population the rail line has drawn to Guiren.

🎓 Taiwan's First Public K-12 School
The 2025 conversion made this Taiwan's first public school spanning kindergarten through senior high under one administration — roughly 15 classes across all four divisions from day one.
🌐 Built to Be Bilingual
The school operates in Chinese and English by design, a direct response to the international and professional population that the Tainan HSR station has brought to Guiren.
🚄 A School Born of the HSR Boom
Its very existence traces back to 2005, when it opened as a junior high specifically to serve the population influx following the arrival of the Tainan High Speed Rail line.
🏫 One Institution Across Two Names
The former "Shalun Junior High School" (沙崙國中) is not a separate school — it is the same institution before its November 2024 approval to convert and rename into today's K-12 international senior high.
Guiren's rail gateway, in miniature.
Like the district around it, this school's history is a direct product of the Tainan High Speed Rail Station reshaping Guiren from a farming township into a transit-development zone. It opened in 2005 to absorb the housing boom that followed the rail line, and its 2025 conversion into a K-12 bilingual school reflects the same forces two decades on — an international, professional community now settled around the HSR Special District. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
