A century of teaching, from an ancestral hall to a modern campus.
Shagang Elementary's origins trace to April 1920, when it began as a branch of Huxi Public School at Dingwan Village. It became independent as "Huxi No. 2 Public School" in 1927, was renamed "Penghu Prefecture Shagang National School" in 1941, and took its current name in 1968. Classes were originally held in the Hong-clan ancestral hall before a dedicated schoolhouse was built. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020, drawing over 500 alumni back to campus, and has educated more than 3,000 students over its century of history — including a former Speaker of the Penghu County Council.
