A century of Atayal education in six settlements.
Sanguang Elementary dates to 1917, founded as “新竹州高雁蕃童教育所” (an aboriginal-children's education station). It has been renamed multiple times since — 雁鳴國民學校 in 1946, 三光國民學校 in 1948, through further renamings tied to Taoyuan's administrative changes, and finally 桃園市復興區三光國民小學 in 2014. The school marked its 100th anniversary and was designated a “重點原住民學校” (priority Indigenous school) in 2011. All of its students' families are Atayal, and its catchment spans six tribal settlements — Wudaonenggan, Gaogang, Shalunzi, Yeheng, Fuhua, and Hakai. The school runs a dedicated curriculum called “真正的泰雅人” (“A True Atayal Person”), built around traditional Atayal crafts, industries, and history.
