Founded in 2002, Yilan County Humanity Elementary and Junior High School was Taiwan's first publicly-funded, privately-operated (公辦民營) charter-style school — a landmark in the island's experimental education movement. Rather than teaching separate subjects in isolation, the school built its curriculum around theme-based, integrated learning that spans all nine grades from elementary through junior high in a single campus. In August 2024, the school came under direct administration by the Yilan County government following a change in its operating team, marking a new chapter in its two-decade history.
人文國中小創立於民國91年（2002年），是全台第一所公辦民營的實驗學校，為台灣實驗教育發展的重要里程碑。學校不採傳統分科教學，而是以主題式統整課程貫穿國小到國中共九個年級，國中部與國小部合一於同一校園。民國113年（2024年）8月，因辦學團隊異動，學校改由宜蘭縣政府直接經營管理，展開新的篇章。
