Split from the city's oldest school, along the river.
Ren-Ai Elementary became an independent school in 1947, splitting off from Wenhua National School — the institution that today continues as the National Taitung University Affiliated Experimental Elementary School. It was renamed to its current name in 1968. The campus spans 3.37 hectares along the north bank of the Peinan River and includes a 30-classroom soundproofed teaching building and a swimming pool. Its Chen Shu-ju Library, a gift from an alumna, opened in May 2005.
