Qishan-Gushan Elementary opened in 1909, during the Japanese colonial era, as the Gushan Branch Teaching Site of Hanshuliao Public School (蕃薯藔公學校鼓山分教場). The school relocated to a new 2.97-hectare campus in 2001 and has been recognized by the Ministry of Education as a "life-education model school." It takes its name from Gushan ("drum mountain"), a local hill and village name within Cishan District — distinct from the unrelated Gushan Elementary School located in Kaohsiung's harbor-side Gushan District.
鼓山國小創校於1909年（明治42年，日治時期），初為「蕃薯藔公學校鼓山分教場」。2001年遷至佔地2.97公頃的新校區，並獲教育部肯定為「生命教育特色學校」。校名取自旗山區內「鼓山」這座山丘與聚落地名——與高雄港邊鼓山區的同名國小並無關聯，純屬地名巧合。
