Postwar roots, and a modern test of resilience.
Cianjhen Elementary School was founded in February 1947, just two years after the end of Japanese rule in Taiwan, under its first principal, Chen Huoyan, in the Xijia (西甲) area of the district. The school relocated to its current site in December 1953. In 1993, a China Petroleum Corporation underground oil pipeline ruptured near the campus, requiring two years of environmental remediation — an episode that remains part of the school's, and the district's, modern history.
