From the city's second junior high to today's Qianjin.
Qianjin Junior High opened in 1946 as Kaohsiung Municipal Second Junior High School, one of the first junior highs established in the city after the war. It absorbed the short-lived Municipal Third Junior High School in 1947, briefly added a senior-high division in 1954, and took its current name, Qianjin Junior High, in 1968 when the school became fully coeducational under Taiwan's new nine-year compulsory education system. In 1990 it laid central Kaohsiung's first all-weather running track, and it today runs gifted-education and music/arts-talent classes.

Named for Cianjin's historic "advance capital."
The school sits in Cianjin (前金), one of old Takao's earliest-settled hamlets — a name rooted in a historic capital fund (“前金,” literally “advance capital”) used to finance early land reclamation near the mouth of the Love River. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
