From sugar-company farmland to a neighborhood school.
Qianjin Elementary traces its roots to around 1947, when it began as a branch of neighboring Datong Elementary School, before becoming an independent school in 1949. Forty years later, in 1989, the school relocated from its original site — by then a busy intersection on Jianguo Road that was being widened into an eight-lane thoroughfare — to a new campus built on former Taiwan Sugar Corporation farmland, where it stands today near the Gaoping River at the eastern edge of the Pingtung Plain.

☯️ "Ceaseless Self-Strengthening"
The school's emblem draws on the classical I Ching phrase "as the heavens move with vigor, the noble person ceaselessly strengthens himself" — a motif notable enough to be featured in a national newspaper's series on school emblems.
🚜 Built on Former Sugar-Company Land
The current campus was constructed in 1989 on farmland once owned by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, part of the broader redevelopment of company land on Pingtung City's eastern edge.

The school sits near the Gaoping River, the wide waterway that marks the eastern approach into the Pingtung Plain from the highlands beyond.
🏫 A Branch That Grew Independent
Like several other Pingtung City schools, Qianjin began life as a branch campus of a larger neighborhood school before growing into its own independent institution.
Sugar fields into schoolyards.
Qianjin Elementary's move onto former Taiwan Sugar Corporation (台糖) farmland in 1989 reflects Pingtung City's broader transition from a sugar-agriculture hinterland into an urbanized school district, as land once used for cane cultivation was repurposed for the city's expanding neighborhoods near the Gaoping River. See the Pingtung county page for more on the region.
