Zhongfeng Elementary, founded in 1959, sits in the northeast corner of Puli and has served as a local educational and cultural anchor since its founding. Its school buildings collapsed in the catastrophic 1999 921 earthquake and were subsequently rebuilt. Today the school is known for its butterfly-ecology study program and arts-education enrichment activities.
