A century of schooling in the Puli basin.
Yuying Elementary traces its lineage to 1912, when it began as Puli Common School under Japanese rule — making it one of the oldest schools in the Puli basin. Renamed several times through the Japanese colonial and postwar periods, it took its current name, Yuying Elementary, in 1968. The 1999 921 earthquake caused severe damage to the campus, which was substantially rebuilt and completed in 2002, giving the school its present-day facilities.

📛 Several Names, One School
歷經多次更名
Renamed multiple times through the Japanese and postwar periods before settling on Yuying Elementary in 1968, the school's naming history mirrors Taiwan's own 20th-century transitions.
Rooted in Puli's papermaking and flower trade.
As one of Puli's oldest schools, Yuying's century-long history mirrors the basin township's own development as a center of papermaking craft and flower and orchid growing — industries that have long defined the Puli basin's identity within Nantou County. See the Nantou county page for more on the region.
