Rebuilt after the 921 earthquake.
Taoyuan Elementary began in 1951 as a branch of Xinan National School serving Taomi Village, becoming independent the following year in 1952. It took its current name, Taoyuan Elementary, in 1968. The devastating 921 earthquake of 1999 badly damaged the campus, and the school was substantially rebuilt between 2001 and 2002 — part of a wave of school reconstruction across the Puli basin in the earthquake's aftermath.
