From branch school to independent campus.
Qilin Elementary was founded in 1950 as a branch of nearby Nanguang National School, becoming an independent school in its own right in 1953. It took its current name, Qilin Elementary, in 1968. The 1999 921 earthquake caused severe damage to the campus, which was subsequently rebuilt, with construction completed in 2001. Today the school sits along Wujie Road on the rural fringe of Puli Township.
