From a branch classroom to a baby-boom giant.
Nanguang Elementary began in 1935 as a branch classroom of Puli Public School, becoming independent as "Puli South Public School" in 1936. After several renamings, it settled on Nanguang Elementary in 1968. At its historical peak, it was the second-largest school in the Puli area, once reaching 52 classes and over 2,000 students during the postwar baby boom. Today the school runs its "Nanguang Loves Reading" literacy program alongside Hakka-language and indigenous-culture programs.
