Built on forest land, rebuilt through disaster.
Dacheng Junior High was built on 2 hectares of nursery land granted by the Forestry Bureau, opening on September 9, 1968. Its buildings were nearly completely destroyed in the catastrophic 1999 921 earthquake, and the campus was rebuilt by the Tzu Chi Foundation, reopening in January 2002. In 2023, the school became a sister school with Izumi Junior High School in Kagoshima, Japan, and it also hosts a branch of Nantou Community University.
