Dacheng Elementary opened on September 1, 1960, under founding principal Huang Chao-tang, at the entrance to the Puli basin. Just two years later, in 1962, its table tennis team captured the national championship — a remarkable early achievement for a young school. The school graduated its first class of 108 students in 1963 and has continued serving the children of Puli ever since.
