Zhongzheng Elementary School traces its lineage back to 1899, connected to the 1903-established Akō Elementary School (阿緱尋常高等小學校). It went through several renamings across Taiwan's changing eras — becoming Pingtung Ordinary Higher Elementary School in 1921, Rong National School in 1941, Pingtung City First National School in 1945, Zhongzheng National School in 1946, and finally Zhongzheng National Elementary School in 1968. Its historic principal's residence is a registered cultural heritage building. After World War II, the school absorbed students and records from a bombed sister school when the original school's Japanese students were repatriated.
中正國小校史可溯及明治36年（1903年）設立的「阿緱尋常高等小學校」。歷經數次更名：大正10年（1921年）「屏東尋常高等小學校」、昭和16年（1941年）「榮國民學校」、民國34年（1945年）「屏東市第一國民學校」、民國35年（1946年）「中正國民學校」，至民國57年（1968年）定名「中正國民小學」。校內的校長宿舍已登錄為國家文化資產。二戰後，隨著日籍學生遣返，該校吸收了一所遭轟炸的姊妹校（屏東公學校）的學生與校務紀錄。
