Born at the Changli Temple, 1898.

Neipu Elementary was established in October 1898 as a language-instruction hall at the site of the Changli Temple, becoming Neipu Public School that same November — reputedly the oldest school in the greater Pingtung/Liudui region. The school moved to a new campus site in 1925 and has been renamed several times through Taiwan's changing eras, taking its current name in 1968. Today it is the largest school in the Liudui region, with roughly 650 students across 26 classes on a 4.86-hectare campus, and is officially designated a Hakka Language Living School, actively promoting Hakka-language instruction.

Where "diligent farming, studious reading" began.

📖

Neipu is the "Hou Dui" (後堆, Rear Pile) of the Liudui Hakka confederation — a historically Hakka settlement prizing "diligent farming, studious reading" (勤耕雨讀). Neipu Elementary itself originated at the Changli Temple, the region's foremost Qing-era center of Hakka scholarship, dedicated to Han Yu and credited with producing many imperial-exam graduates from the six-pile area. The school's continued role as a Hakka Language Living School keeps that heritage alive for a new generation. See the Pingtung county page for more on the region.
