A miniature Paiwan culture park in school form.

Chunri Elementary School traces its origin to February 1945, when it was established during the Japanese colonial era as an indigenous children's education center; it was renamed Chunri National School in December 1945 after Taiwan's retrocession. The school is regarded as one of the “must-visit” elementary schools in southern Taiwan, largely because its library takes the form of a traditional Paiwan tribal granary (穀倉), giving it a naturally lit, cafe-like appearance often described as resembling a miniature Paiwan culture park. As of the 2018 school year, indigenous — mostly Paiwan — students made up 99% of its 66-student enrollment. The school also fields a strong judo program and an award-winning traditional-song group.

🏺

Chunri Township is a Paiwan indigenous mountain township in the deep south of Pingtung, along the route toward the Jinshuiying Historic Trail. Paiwan granary architecture, traditional song, and communal ceremony are actively woven into daily school life here — nowhere more visibly than in Chunri Elementary's granary-shaped library, a design that turns the school itself into a piece of living Paiwan heritage.
